So I arrived in Khao Lak - on the sunset side and there you can find beautiful well-maintained beaches for the tourists.
The first night in a homestay (which I can really recommend), we had a fresh coconut for breakfast and of course a mango - that cannot be missed!
2 more nights in a hostel and a tour to the Similan Islands (which is a national park with 9 small islands)
We bathed in crystal clear water - many of us tourists...
See for yourself.
On the discovery tour around Khao Lak, there was actually an elephant on the roadside. I had wished so much to see one and whoosh, there it was. He swung his head back and forth gently but steadily - it gave the impression that he doesn't feel terribly comfortable.
After the time in Khao Lak, we continued right away.
Off to the next national park with overnight stay :)
The Khao Sok National Park is a dam flooded in 1980 and jungle all around.
13 elephants live in the jungle and we saw 2 - during the evening safari. That was a really beautiful experience because the elephant was waving its ears like crazy.
That probably shows that he is happy.
By the way - fun fact: elephants can run really fast - 60 km/h on flat ground - so if you see one, you better jump down a mountain if one is nearby - the chances of survival are much greater there.
Sleeping in a floating house is definitely an experience!
