We drove from Pisa to Viareggio to a free parking lot. There were about 10-15 motorhomes here. Mostly Italians, except for 2 Germans, who we joined. We spent 2 quiet nights here with walks to the beach and a bike ride to Viareggio. In Viareggio, there was a bustling life, just like in the movies. Crowded beaches, many people in the water, and lots going on. We sat on the rocks here and enjoyed the sun and the people's activities. Chris even jumped into the cool water.
From Viareggio, we went to the camp to get everything ready again ;) The entire beach street was filled with private beach sections... kilometers long... I think it was at least 5-7km. Insane. Unbelievable. Absolutely not worth seeing.
On Tuesday, we went to a parking lot (€6 per night) in La Spezia. We rode our bikes to the city in the afternoon. At first glance, there was a lot of industry and it wasn't as cute as the other cities. But it can't always get better ;) However, we saw some luxury yachts here and surprisingly, there were cappuccinos for €1.50. Thumbs up!
The next day, at 10:15am, we took a boat to Porto Venere. A city right on the coast, which is difficult to reach by bike and not allowed with Theo. 30 minutes of boat ride, great in the hot weather, and we also saw the other small towns along the coast, like Marola and Fezzano. Unfortunately, you can't really see the cuteness in the pictures. You have to get really close. That's why the pictures are from Google. Once we arrived in Porto Venere, we walked through the small streets with cute restaurants and shops. Then we went to the former castle and fortress. From here, you can look out into the vastness of the sea. Incredibly impressive and beautiful. We then walked to a small beach and jumped into the water. After that, we had a pizza and at 2:45pm, our boat headed back towards the bicycles. Nice trip!
Today, June 10th, we arrived in Levanto. It's currently storming, so that means resting and going to the beach tomorrow.
Ps: Coffee is very affordable in Italy, unlike my favorite drink, for which they want a fortune. Cappuccino €1.30/beer or Radler 0.5L €5.
