San Sebastian

प्रकाशित: 17.11.2023

Hello everyone,

After a break and a few turbulent days, I'll get back to you. Turbulent because my father was in the hospital and I was infected with Corona. But I'll tell you more about this in a more recent article, because before that I would like to show you the last stop in northern Spain - Donastia San Sebastian. A city that lies just before the French border and is a really pretty spot.

My campsite was a good bit west in Orio. But I had informed myself in advance and the train connection to downtown San Sebastian is really good and only takes half an hour. So I showed up at the campsite first and then set off the next morning after breakfast.

Stairs

I've already seen a few colors along the way. The train ride through the Basque Country was really beautiful and very, very green. The train station is in the middle of the city center and you can start directly from there.

Through the city center and past some very interesting old buildings you reach the super long and well-located sandy beach of San Sebastian.

There were still a few people relaxing here and walking through the fine sand.

There was a photo exhibition of animals from across Europe right on the beach. This was completely public and here I saw a picture that I would like to share with you:

Through the city center I reached the old town further towards the sea and admired the old buildings step by step.

Look at the picture. What do you notice?

I particularly admired this building. And what can I say, the owners know their Pappenheimers and especially their climbing community and have stuck a no-climbing sign on the front of the house. From the old town I continued walking towards “Stadthügel”. There is an old fort on top of it and I thought the view would certainly be great from there.

And the view and the way up there were really beautiful.

Another beach in town.
Cool walk in the middle of nowhere.

On the way up I even found an old stone tunnel.

Where to go?

When I reached the top I also saw the famous Jesus watching over the city. Pretty big statue.

There were also cannons from various times in the castle at the castle.

From there we went back to the city center with some wind in the trees. Here I treated myself to some delicious ice cream.

Café and vanilla

And not only does it look huge in the photo, it was also really huge and it was also just super tasty. I then strolled further through the old town with my ice cream.

On the way back to the train station I discovered a magical park with a small "observatory" in the middle. Back in Orio I also picked up some art for you:

When I got back to the campsite, I made myself a delicious dinner and had a nice chat with a German couple who were passing by. Since the next day was forecast to be a rainy day, I packed up all my stuff and put it in the car. I was actually already lying in my bed when there was a knock on my window and this very couple asked if I would like to sit at the table with them and if we could have a drink together. I wanted to do that and then joined Birgit and Rainer. The two of them offered me beer and after a few hours of chatting and a few very funny stories, the apple liqueur was unpacked and somehow something was grilled and whoosh, it was late in the evening, I was a little buzzed and everyone involved was very, very happy . It was a great evening.

The next morning we headed back to France early. I wanted to see Biarritz there.

More on that in my next post.

Your Britta
