... we leave Basel

Strengthened, we leave Basel in the evening hours. Like two years ago, the Nightjet of the ÖBB takes us to Hamburg. On the train, we meet two Bernese, father and son, who are going to the port birthday. Interestingly, their ancestors come from the Russian-Finnish border area, exactly where we are heading now. The father was on the trail of his ancestors many years ago with the R 4.

In Hamburg, an old friend is waiting for us on the platform: My friend Günter, with whom I traveled half the world with a backpack in the 70s. During the extensive breakfast, we exchange ideas and all enjoy the perfect start to the journey.

On the train to Aarhus, the passenger next to us tells us about the concern and grief caused by several deaths in her environment. She is traveling by train for the first time and is looking forward to a week of relaxation with a friend.

Once again, we realize that it is the encounters that make traveling special.

During the train ride to Denmark, we stop in Rendsburg. Unfortunately, I was conscripted into the Bundeswehr there. After a letter from my cousin with a 'Rote Hilfe' stamp, the MAD intervened and I was immediately transferred. Wearing the big dress uniform, which no BW soldier besides me has ever worn, and the sea bag, I traveled halfway through Germany, to the amusement of the people. Today on the train, I also laughed heartily about it.
