Let's go to Austria! Scharnitz near Seefeld is the destination of our first vacation with dog, even if it's only a long weekend. We, that's my girlfriend Myri, our dog Alice and me, Flo. In the early evening of 18.08.2016 we set off and drive into the night. Alice copes surprisingly well with the 7-hour drive with only one break, but it's also her bedtime. We experience a blue wonder when we arrive in Scharnitz in front of our accommodation. We couldn't reach our hosts through the agreed mobile number and stand in front of locked doors. And finding an alternative accommodation with a dog is not that easy. There's only one option left. Fold down the back seat in the car. Luckily, I have a station wagon and we don't have much luggage. But two dog blankets that turn into bedding at short notice. Alice snuggles up between us as usual and we happily fall asleep despite the additional strain.
In the early morning, we notice light in the house and Myri decides to go in. She comes back with a room key and we are overjoyed to finally be able to check into our room. After a 3-hour deep sleep phase, we enjoy the extensive breakfast of our hosts, who are terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
With a good excursion tip, we set off for the Pleisenhütte at 1780m. The first mountain hike with Alice. We are very excited to see how she will do. A Whippet, especially a 9-month-old one, is usually more of a sprinter than an endurance athlete. Nevertheless, Alice copes surprisingly well and the path over Birzelkappelle and Karwendeltal to Pleisenhütte is simply breathtakingly beautiful. After a little more than 3 hours we reach our destination and we, but also Alice, are happy about the rest stop with refreshments.
An hour later, we set off on the return journey. We decide to take the Isarsteig for the return journey and enjoy the crystal clear water of the Isar, fed by the mountain streams of the Karwendel Mountains. The source of the Isar is also near Scharnitz. We don't need quite as long for the return journey as for the outward journey. But we are still glad that we made it. But Alice is even more happy because she is completely exhausted after the strains of the day. She is not easily excited for a short trip to the quaint town of Mittenwald and after our return she falls asleep completely exhausted. Let's see what tomorrow brings. We plan a tandem paragliding flight and, because of our guilty conscience towards Alice, a slightly more relaxed activity...
