After a great dinner for most drivers and team members at the first restaurant on site in Seakopmund, the evening of 08/12 quickly came to an end, as no one slept during the race night.
Now it was time for the team members and drivers to enjoy the rest, which started with a nice breakfast at our cozy hotel. For me, it was rather cautious to not challenge my stomach/intestines directly again.
After we had dismantled the bikes and stored them in the transport boxes, we (my hare, Marco, Georg, our photographer Maxi Hupp, and I) took a trip to Walvisbay and Dune 7 (one of the highest dunes in the world).
The ascent was very hot, especially for Marco Max and me, as we did it barefoot. Our bare feet got pretty grilled during that. But it was definitely worth it because from the top we could take spectacular pictures of the dune landscape. Another highlight were the flocks of flamingos in Walvisbay.
Later, we took a little walk and drifted a bit with the Amarok on the beach, and then it was time for dinner again. Unfortunately, this was the last time.
Yesterday morning we divided ourselves into the six vehicles and made our way back to Windhoek in a convoy.
On the plane and back to cold Germany.
As a conclusion, by special request, a little excursion to the track, or rather the condition of the track of the Dash.
The first 10 km away from Windhoek were normal paved roads. After that, the track continued on official paths, on which cars, especially the support vehicles, also drove.
Then it became extremely dusty and the visibility was very poor.
However, the track is very bumpy and partly very worn out, so you have to constantly look for the best line. Unfortunately, it is not possible to drive straight ahead without concentrating. The track is not very demanding in terms of driving technique. Mostly in the descents, because loose debris can be found there.
As previously described, stage six has a 15 to 20 kilometer long very sandy section that takes away the last remaining energy.
The last km to Swakopmund are then paved again.
