Zion National Park

प्रकाशित: 27.08.2018

After a short drive of only 2 1/2 hours, we arrived at the gates of Zion National Park. Unfortunately, we had to pay a $15 'tunnel toll' because our RV is so tall. But it was worth it, the journey to the heart of the park alone was fantastic! Once we reached the bottom, we once again checked the Visitor Center for the current conditions of the hiking trails and flash floods. Everything was fine, except that many hiking trails are closed due to a flood on July 11, including the Angel's Landing Trail, which I was actually planning to do. But we found an alternative. Bene preferred to relax, so I left him behind and explored the park by shuttle bus, occasionally getting off and going on short hikes. Very relaxed.

The next morning, it really started. I got up early and boarded one of the first shuttle buses to go to the end of Zion Canyon. There was the entrance to the Narrows, the very narrow canyon where the Virgin River flows through. I hiked deeper and deeper along the river, it wasn't just wet feet, it became wet knees, wet hips, and finally, my shoulders had to go underwater too. Until I walked through the famous 'Wallstreet', where the canyon is narrowest and the walls are meters high. It took some time until I finally reached Big Spring, a spring that flows into the river like a waterfall. The way back was not nice, it felt like being in an amusement park and having to avoid the crowds. And Bene didn't want to come along, he enjoyed another relaxing day and explored the park by shuttle bus.

Angel's Landing was actually planned for the second day, but a storm broke off an 80-foot section of the trail. So I had to go for my alternative, the Observation Point Trail. A beautiful trail that leads to a viewpoint. Since I was back down at 10 am, I decided to do the Hidden Canyon Trail, which was very narrow and relatively quiet, and occasionally, you had to scramble up a rock. Once again at the bottom, I noticed that I needed 3 3/4 hours for both trails, but according to the description, it would have taken about 8 hours. I don't know if I'm wrong or if the description is wrong... and Bene, oh Bene did the same thing as yesterday.

In conclusion, it can be said that the park is beautiful when it comes to nature, but the crowds of people unfortunately prevent you from enjoying it.

On the way to the next stop, we stopped at a German bakery that does its best, but it's not quite perfect.
