5 Days Thursday 8.8

Today we took a trip about 65km north to the beautiful city of Aalborg on the Limfjord. First, we visited the Navy Museum. There, among other things, we could see a real submarine. Of course, as an old sailor, I tried my best to explain the technology to my family. The same goes for a torpedo boat. Both were quite cramped. In addition, it was raining heavily. But the kids enjoyed it. In several buildings, we could admire everything from real rowing boats of the royal yacht to dishes, uniforms, model ships, pressure chambers, and mines and torpedoes. There were even a model of the Titanic, pictures, and newspaper articles to see. The Carpathia was also mentioned. In the background played 'Nearer to God my thee,' which is said to be the last song the passengers heard in their lives.

But the absolute highlight for the boys was the ship simulator. They hardly ran aground anywhere. It was very difficult to get them away from there. But we still wanted to go to the city center. There we found numerous narrow alleys and wide shopping streets. He couldn't find any souvenirs or special Danish sweets. But we did find the Aalborg Lutheran Cathedral. This 600-year-old church fascinated me, especially because organ music was playing. The altar and the carved pulpit were also eye-catching.

Around 16:40, we headed back to Illeris. Because there was no hot food, only pancakes, I retreated to bed. Later in the evening, we played dice games with one or two delicious beers. By midnight, this day was also over. So, until tomorrow.
