After 24 hours of continuous rain, the sun smiled again this morning, albeit only at 10 degrees. The inn is situated at an elevation of about 850m. However, the view from the window revealed snow on the Seiser Alm, on the fir trees, and mountains. We wanted to see that! We took the lift approximately 1200m up to an altitude of 2250m, where sunshine and a snow depth of 15 - 20 cm awaited us along with clear visibility and blue skies! We took a lap at the top and watched the hosts shoveling the outdoor seating and paths clear of snow. We wanted to earn our lunch honestly, so we walked down the path through the forest to Seis to the lift station. At first, it was a bit slippery due to the snow, but at about 1800m the snow was mostly gone, and after about 3 hours we were back down. We had 'earned' Wiener Schnitzel and spinach spaetzle with cream. In the afternoon, we headed back to Kastelruth, as the alphorn players were supposed to perform in the village square. It’s impressive what one female player and her two male companions coaxed from the alphorns. Before that, we had checked out the traditional costume exhibition. Of course, it was time for coffee and cake in the sunshine! Now, when we look out the window, the white caps on the fir trees have disappeared, and only the mountain tops still shine white.
