Ok... The Perhentian Islands were beautiful, the water incredibly clear, and it is one of the best places in the world to get a scuba diving certificate. But as a result, it was also quite crowded there. Dive centers everywhere. Perfect for hanging out on the beach in the evening and drinking the unfortunately expensive island beer. The fire shows were impressive and I met great people. Have I shown you yet?
In search of some peace for my last few days before returning to KL, I followed a secret tip and headed towards Kapas Island. Back on the mainland... after a two-hour bus ride, I arrived at the inconspicuous jetty of Merang. A small boat took me and a Spanish girl I met along the way to the island in 15 minutes. It was unclear whether I would survive the trip without any injuries. Due to the slight waves and the 4789 km/h (I swear), the nutshell felt like it was in the air for 6 seconds and upon landing, my spinal discs were scattered in all directions.
Slightly damaged, the boat stopped right on the beach. I couldn't book accommodation in advance. So I had to rely on 'Walk-In'. There are only a few small accommodations on the island. But the first one I approached immediately impressed me. I have a small single room here. Simple and basic, but cool. The sanitary facilities are very clean. My door is on the left.
There is electricity but no WiFi. Electricity is exclusively generated by solar panels. The bar says 'No WiFi - talk to each other'. Very sympathetic. The owner is a German who knows our customs and therefore provides me with plenty of beer. I can pay upon departure :-)
As for the island itself... what can I say? I am at a loss for words. This is by far one of the most beautiful and impressive places I have ever been to. There are no shops... hardly any accommodations, and most of the time, I am the only person on the beach. The only sounds around me are the sea and the wind blowing through the palm trees. When I sit on my towel on the beach and look around, I can hardly believe it. The bar is right on the beach and as I write, I am looking out at the sea and listening to pleasant music in my ears.
If I ever want to completely clear my mind from everyday life, this will definitely be the place to do it.
I only go into the sea with a shirt now, as my back resembles a medium-rare steak. The backrest of my chair is unnecessary.
