We had to sleep in properly after yesterday's long day. So we didn't start our exploration tour of Hue until noon. The city was once the capital of Vietnam and is now also known as the ancient imperial city. The main attraction is the Citadel. To visit it, we had to cross the Perfume River - but we didn't notice much of its fragrances. In the Citadel, you feel transported back to ancient China. The many buildings with their ornate roof peaks, the vibrant colors, the precisely trimmed bonsai trees, and the ponds full of lotus flowers and koi were beautiful.
Before the long train journey to Hanoi - according to the website it should last 15 hours - we had dinner at Madam Thu's. That was a hit - super delicious local specialties, a kind of Vietnamese tapas. We practically tried the whole menu and it was so good that we asked if we could take 1-2 of them as take away. This worked out as well :)
So we went fully packed to the train station at nine o'clock and the train left for Hanoi at 21:30. The arrival time in Hanoi is supposed to be 12:33 - they said... Currently, it's 13:43 and we're still on the train and I (Seraina) am writing the blog entry in Word (there is no WiFi on the trains). When one of the train attendants, who can't really speak English, was asked when we would arrive in Hanoi, he typed 17:30 on his phone. We got a free lunch and believe that this is sort of an apology for the massive delay. So here we sit and have continued working on the new video and the second photo book about the short stop in Kuala Lumpur as well as our experiences in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam so that we're up to date everywhere. The first photo book is by the way about Sri Lanka and already finished. I'm just starting to babble and therefore will stop writing further... until next time - goodbye.
