We spent two nights here again to explore this historic city extensively. San Antonio was founded in 1718 and is the oldest city in Texas. The current museum, 'The Alamo', is particularly well-known. In 1718, the Spanish mission station San Antonio de Valero was founded here. After it served its purpose, the mission station was closed in 1793. Six years later, Spanish soldiers from the city of Alamo de Parras converted the abandoned station into a military base and named it 'El Alamo'. In 1836, the station became the scene of an infamous battle in the Texas War of Independence against Mexico. We visited the museum, strolled around the grounds, through the church, and through an exhibition about the history of the former mission station. San Antonio is located on the river of the same name. The well-known 5-kilometer pedestrian promenade, 'River Walk', winds its way through the city center along the river. We strolled past subtropical vegetation, cafes, shops, and bathing ducks. In conclusion, we walked through the streets of the city, discovered an old salon, and browsed a few shops.
