A little update on our first week of vacation from November 11th to 17th: We first spent a few days in Accra to celebrate Cosi's birthday and say goodbye to Matilda, who flew back to her home country Sweden. On the day of arrival, we spent a fun afternoon playing minigolf with Laud and celebrated in the Republic Bar in the evening. Beware, the cocktails pack a punch! A visit to the bustling Makola Market, a trip to the Accra Mall and the Art Markets at the Centre for National Culture rounded off our stay in Accra. The Art Market is a dream for lovers of crafts, second-hand bags, and souvenirs. Insider tip: Try the Red Red at the Akwaaba Restaurant! It is located next to the stalls where you can buy drums and carvings.
We then took the VIP Bus to Kumasi on Wednesday. We stayed with friends who are students and their supervisors, whom we had met in Ada Foah. The next day, a friend showed us all the important sights and we learned all about the Ashanti people and visited the Kumasi Central Hospital. Even today, you can see how the city benefits from its wealth: the houses look more fortified, the streets are in good condition, and the city is relatively clean. Unfortunately, Cosi had to leave the next day as she was not feeling well and needed to recover.
In Kumasi, the following days included visits to the Botanical Garden, the Military Museum, and the Central Market. We spent a whole day at the vibrant market. Bestsellers: fabrics and giant kitchen knives. On Sundays, local students took us on a tour of various plantations and farms (cocoa, fish, vegetables), and on the way back, we passed through the campus grounds of Kwame Nkrumah University. On Monday, Emma also returned to Senya.
By the way, on Tuesday, it turned out after a laboratory test: Cosi's diagnosis is typhoid! Despite vaccination, the pathogens struck, but luckily our health center provided the best care and she received all the necessary medication. The next day, signs of improvement were already visible.
Miadogo,
Cosi & Emma
PS: The four weeks are over and Emma's Braids are out. We found happy recipients for the leftovers. :)
