Adventure Washington-New York 2022 - let's go!!!

This time I will book the tickets to New York at the end of May with Singapore Airlines. The prices have become consistently more expensive, but still cheaper than the competition.

The tickets cost €611 this year - no problem - we had to postpone the trip twice already, now we hope for 2022! It just HAS to work out!!!

In late summer, I will book the hotels again - except for 1-2 changes, they are still the same hotels that we had in mind in 2020.

We have slightly revised the travel routes. We are giving up the 2nd day on the Jersey coast and planning one more day in Washington. The rest remains the same.

In New York, after the Airbnb disaster, we have opted for an affordable hotel in Queens. Here we will have 2 rooms and therefore a bit more comfort than squeezing into one room with 2 queen-size beds for 4 people.

In Washington, we have booked an apartment with 2 bedrooms, the remaining nights will be cozy in one room together. But well, after RV trips through the USA; Canada and Australia, "being close together" is nothing new for us. And in the end, we are only in the hotel to sleep anyway.

In December, the new schedule for April on Broadway will finally be released. The disillusionment is great: no Frozen 😰

Too bad, we would have loved to see that...

The alternatives are unfortunately not really good either. We saw Aladdin together in London a few years ago, we would like to see "The Phantom of the Opera", but the tickets (if you don't like sitting all the way out& back) are ridiculously expensive.

We decide on "The Lion King". The spouse and I have already seen it in Hamburg in the musical, but the kids have not seen it yet and are looking forward to it, as the songs sound much better in English than in German! Well, then that fits 😅

Once the rental car is organized, we book our main attractions in mid-March via the New York CityPass. It's quite difficult to plan everything in advance down to the minute, but we are familiar with that from other vacations. Now the vacation just has to take place and the weather has to be good 🙏🏻🌞

In mid-March it gets exciting again: a family member gets infected with Omicron 😱😱

Thanks to isolation, we manage to prevent the rest of the family from getting infected. Phew, that would be something if the vacation had to be canceled because of Corona...

Today is Thursday, April 7th, 2022 - we leave on Saturday morning, the excitement is rising!

The weather forecast for Washington looks good anyway. The temperatures are supposed to climb to almost 30 degrees Celsius! I'm curious... A few days ago, there was still snow here - I can't imagine it all yet.

Actually, the only thing that can ruin our vacation now is tomorrow's rapid COVID-19 test. So far, we are all "negative", the kids and I continue to wear FFP2 masks at school (why was the mask requirement lifted right before the holidays again???), and we really hope that no rapid test will be positive in the last stretch 🙈

90% of my students no longer wear masks - all the more reason to keep wearing it this week!!!

So, all forms are filled out, my vacation countdown says 1 day 9 hours and 45 minutes 🤪🤪🤪

Then we can (hopefully) start!!! Let's hope that all tests tomorrow are NEGATIVE!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
