Mardi Gras was practically invented in Mobile. So, of course, there have been various parades here for days. Each organized by different krewes. Today, in the 12th, we plan to go on a hunt for pearl necklaces again. Meanwhile, we are becoming picky and only taking the beautiful ones. We give away the others to the left and right.
Today, the floats were mainly filled with children and teenagers from different schools and grades who clearly had fun. Especially when they spotted their friends or Ganilien, there was no holding back. Beads, king cakes, and plush toys flew through the air by the bagful. Lots of fun and so many smiling faces.
Around 2:00 PM, we set off and left Dauphin Street in Mobile on our way to New Orleans.
On the way, I wanted to take a look at the lighthouse in Biloxi, Missouri, so we made a stop in the casino town. By the way, we had great weather again today and we also got some color. However, the lighthouse appeared rather white and a bit pale. We both expected something more typically spectacular for the USA. In the end, it was a cute little snow-white lighthouse and looked good in the photo.
In and around New Orleans, you can't get around without bridges. Very unusual was what we were offered in terms of roads for the sunset. Our hotel, "The Treme," in the district of the same name, wasn't exactly what we expected, but there is still some clarification needed with Booking.com. We ended the evening on the terrace, listening to music from a boombox brought by other residents. Tomorrow, we will immerse ourselves in the French Quarter and more...
