Fiji island Qamea

Qamea is a mini island in the northeast of Fiji, about 7 km long and 3 km wide. Besides a village and 2 resorts, there is only bush and beach. The island can only be reached by boat.

So the journey itself was already an adventure. We took an 18-person propeller plane from the main island to the neighboring island of Taveuni and from there we continued by boat. The flight in this hopper was quite exciting (especially the landing), but the boat ride was the highlight. In a small open boat similar to a rowboat with an outboard motor, we crossed the open sea for half an hour. It was so wavy that I already thought our luggage would end up in the Pacific.... but the boatwoman had everything under control and skillfully steered the boat through and over the waves.

The resort itself was simple but very nice. Only 20 people could be accommodated here in 10 huts, and during the week there were a maximum of 8 (all very nice) people. It was very relaxing but never boring. You could spend the whole day swimming, snorkeling, and paddling or take small boat tours for fishing or to the village. And there was a small hiking trail that was quite exhausting, directly behind the resort it went through the bush up the mountain.

In addition, there was a beach volleyball court. After playing with 2 or 3 staff members for the first time, we were amazed at how well they played. Our performance was probably not bad either, Martin and I did our best. They immediately said "Tomorrow again", and the next day there were 6 Fijians on the court and us... incredible how well they could play, we had a great time and were exhausted after an hour (and our forearms were bright red). So the next day I treated myself to a massage.

What made the stay particularly pleasant were the incredibly nice and helpful people and the good food. The chef had no problem with the guests being in the kitchen. On the contrary, she gladly showed and explained her cooking skills. The highlight was a dinner from the earth oven "Lovo", which is worth an extra mention here.
