Glasgow - Past, Industry, Modern

יצא לאור: 21.05.2019

We started our first real day in Scotland with a super delicious breakfast at our hotel. With fresh fruit, cheese, sausage, and of course coffee, you have already laid the groundwork for a successful day :)

After that, we started our city tour on the hop-on, hop-off bus with absolutely fantastic, but atypical Scottish weather.

In our opinion, this is the best way to get an overview of the city and its main attractions.

We made our first hop-off at the banks of the Clyde, where we enjoyed the sunshine overlooking the Clydeside Distillery, which opened in 2017. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit it, but it showcased the perfect symbiosis of old Victorian buildings and state-of-the-art technology.

Glasgow is often referred to as the ugly sister of Edinburgh. But places like the Glasgow Cathedral, or the University of Scotland with the associated Kelvingrove Park, proved us wrong!

We were particularly impressed by the Necropolis, the city's oldest cemetery. It is located on a hill next to the cathedral, from which you have a great view of old buildings, industrial sites, and modern architecture.

We just finished our dinner at "Pie and Brew" and were feeling quite experimental. We tried pulled pork, chicken, haddock, and of course haggis with black pudding - all in pie form.

Surprisingly, everything was delicious and we can highly recommend both the place and its weekly changing beer menu and the super nice staff!

We are now ending the evening at "The Pot Still" with a dram (Glendronach 12 yr, Hazelburn 14 yr, and Ballechin).

Tomorrow we will head to Tarbert.

See you later, Maxi and Verena

Lessons learned:

1. The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland.

2. Street art and graffiti are two COMPLETELY different things!

3. Black pudding and Dr. Oetker chocolate pudding are NOT the same!!
