Bacalar - The Lagoon of 7 Colors

יצא לאור: 07.06.2021

The Lagoon of Bacalar, located in a place of the same name, is a freshwater lake that was formed from a total of 7 cenotes. Due to the different colors of the water surface, the lake is also known as the Lagoon of 7 Colors.

We came here as a larger group - all people we had met in Tulum, our Swiss friend Raphael and us.

We had the opportunity to go to a party for the first time in what felt like years. The party took place on the shore of the lake and everyone was painted with color that glowed in black light (see picture). At the party, we coincidentally ran into more people we already knew from Tulum. The phenomenon of meeting people multiple times, which we already experienced in Costa Rica, seems to exist in Mexico as well.

We immediately made plans for the next day to go on a boat tour together on the lake. I found a provider who offers a four-hour boat tour on the lake including snacks and drinks. Everyone quickly agreed to it, so the next day we had the entire boat to ourselves.

However, it quickly became apparent on the boat that I had a different idea of what 'including snacks and drinks' meant. From the naive idea of fruit and water, the reality turned out to be the following:

For the entire 4 hours, we had a private bartender at our disposal, whose job it was to fill as many passengers as possible with beer, cocktails and shots - at least that's how it seemed to us. :D

So it turned out to be a very fun boat ride, but we also got to see the 7 different colors of the lagoon and stopped at the most beautiful spots to swim.

The next day, it was just the two of us continuing our journey - to the dream island Holbox. :)
