Hello there,
today we made our way west to Kluane National Park, where we planned to spend two more nights. In Haines Junction, we visited the tourist information center, where we got some tips on possible hikes and campgrounds. But just before we arrived, we saw wild horses right next to the highway. Real wild horses, with a foal too! It's truly amazing, I didn't really expect to see that here!
Since we still had plenty of time today, we drove to Kathleen Lake, a truly beautiful turquoise lake nestled in front of mountains. Unfortunately, the nice weather didn't last, so it was very windy with some rain showers. But we took a food break in a wooden cabin by the lake.
After that, we headed to our campground, which was right by Kluane Lake. To get there, the road took us across the lake, similar to a kind of causeway. Mostly mud lined the sides of the highway. But the most eerie part was that we had to drive through clouds and on top of that, a very, very strong wind was coming from the side. Suddenly, I couldn't see ten meters in front of me and had to drive at a snail's pace. Once we reached the other side of the lake, everything was fine again.
The campground was right by Kluane Lake, which was still partially frozen. Huge ice floes piled up on the shore, forming large mountains.
