Day 2: Saturday, 24.08.2019

Route: Munich-Venice Cycle Path

Start: Achenkirch
Destination: Innsbruck

Distance Traveled: 74.2 km
Total Cycling Time: 3 hours 59 minutes

7:49 AM (Krissi)

A new day begins. After nearly 10 hours of sleep, we are feeling great and super motivated. Well, at the moment I can only speak for Nico and myself. Yesterday, we drew lots for the rooms and Alex ended up in Anna's room. Julle got Max as a roommate, and I got Nico. Everything was going well until Nico contaminated the bathroom in the morning ;) just kidding! We have packed up and now we're waiting for breakfast at 8:00. I wonder if we can sneak some food. Then we'll start the journey to Innsbruck.

12:37 PM (Julle)

We are currently at a playground in Altmahd for our lunch break, eating quite mismatched things: bananas with Kaminwurz (smoked sausage) and gingerbread. Anna and Nico are eating the applesauce we brought with us in exchange for the beer bottles. We discussed what the silliest thing was (it would have been vanilla sugar, but it would have been too expensive). Anyway, we first cycled along the Achensee with a magnificent view, then downhill for a long time, and then we got lost. ADVENTURE! We passed by logging work, or rather carried our bikes over it. Then we cycled through the woods and I bumped into Anna, causing me to fall. But nothing happened. And then we wanted to cross to the other side of the highway, where there was an underpass that was possibly a bit flooded. Anna's shoe got wet, Max was brave and cycled through. The rest of us, 5 others, went around. It turned out that we were still on the wrong side and had to go back. But now we have found the way and have been cycling straight ahead for a while.

12:51 PM (Alex)

We are slowly approaching the end of our little interlude. The cycle path is really beautiful and runs flat along the Isar (or maybe the Inn ...) with many cornfields. Anna's things are still not dry. She washed all her clothes yesterday and hung them up overnight. Even the 45-minute blow-drying didn't do much. The only things that were dry this morning were her shoes and her super cool (new) rain jacket. Her shoes are no longer dry due to the "flooded tunnel."

Krissi would like to go down a slide now, but Max, as an adult, doesn't want to accompany her and watch over her. Before Anna puts on the wet pants and gets a bladder infection, she should rather ride naked. Max likes that. We just had a very lively discussion about underwear when cycling. Very interesting...

So, now I (following the new image of the undominant Alex) will propose continuing the journey. Then we will vote on it democratically.

5:24 PM (Julle)

We made it! We were actually already here around 4 o'clock, but it took a while to check in, and now Max, Nico, Krissi, and I went shopping right across from our accommodation: tonight we're having pasta with sauce because we have our own kitchen here. The accommodation is awesome! Just now there was a loud thunder sound... but you can't see anything of a thunderstorm. But it was forecasted. Well, who knows? Mysterious...

We talked a lot while cycling earlier. That was on our 20-kilometer straight and flat path along the Inn to Innsbruck. And we passed by a festival with a Highlander competition! Super cool! Teams compete in activities like tug of war, log throwing, or beer keg tossing while wearing Scottish kilts. We stopped and watched. And drank beer. Anna hung all her wet underwear on her backpack once again and changed right in the middle of it all. And one team had to undergo the underwear test, which means they had to lift their kilts and show their bare butts on the count of 3. Krissi filmed it.

5:42 PM (Nico)

We have arrived, but Julle probably already wrote that. It's thundering loudly right now, but the sky isn't actually that cloudy. From our huge accommodation, we have an amazing view of the mountains. Krissi and I almost crashed into each other today because we were so focused on the view. But oh well, the mountain ranges look simply amazing and fascinating. When we were shopping earlier, we could even see a summit cross between the trees. Oooh! Aaah! Beautiful! ;)

So, Anna is currently cooking for everyone and Alex is cutting tomatoes and cucumbers so that we can have something warm to eat tonight. And then I'm curious if we'll explore Innsbruck a bit. Max just joined me on the terrace and made a really funny joke:

Nico: Which direction is Brenner?
Max: Well, I don't know, I don't see any fire...
Hahahaa ;)

The highlight of the day was, of course, besides our adventurous detour, the Highlander party. Only naked men. Or almost naked. Alright, enough of my rambling. Dinner is ready and we're hungry!

PS: The playgrounds here are much cooler.

9:40 PM (Nico)

We just came back from the city. Very beautiful old town, where Krissi freed a thief. Alex bought a t-shirt at the Hard Rock Café and we used the time to go to the bathroom. Very rock'n'roll. Then we discovered a place with bean bags and hammocks, where a bookshelf was set up. You could have grabbed a book, lounged on the bean bag, and relaxed in the middle of the city. But we didn't read. Ann just chilled in a bean bag and we all jumped on it. Twice. Heheh.

Afterwards, we got some delicious ice cream. Except for the cool Max, who insisted on getting 2 burgers from McDonald's, uh, McPuke. ;) On our way home, we noticed 10 times that the Inn river flows really fast and there are similarly cool trash can labels in Innsbruck as in Vienna: ...better trash in the bin than dirt on a stick... In the city, we also took a very nice photo. Very nice, especially because Julle hid behind a lamp post.

Right now, there's some lightning and thunder outside, and Julle is asking very detailed questions about the route. Luckily, we managed to get inside the door after it got stuck. Now everyone is finishing their beer, and I think it's time to finally go to bed. :D We woke up at 6:00 tomorrow so that we can start no later than 7:30. Yippieyeah!

The earworm of the day: The worst thing is when the beer is gone.
-> So far, only songs with alcoholic titles have been on the earworm list (unlike the wordworm list!)
-> And no, only Max is an alcoholic.

Good night and peace out.
