Okay, dear 'fellow travelers' and well-wishers - there it was - a special birthday for the second time 😀
A beautiful clear morning greeted us and we enjoyed the slowly rising sun during an extensive birthday breakfast. The view from our cottage is great, we look out over a wide plain.
We set off around noon to explore the surroundings. First, we find a beautiful small black church - black houses are not uncommon here. So we are in good company 😀
The little church stands right in front of a huge lava mountain and blends in perfectly with the landscape in terms of color.
We continue to the Kerió volcano - a crater that is 6500 years old and contains groundwater at its bottom. The crater is, so to speak, a natural groundwater barometer. Once again, everything is perfectly coordinated in terms of color - nature really has everything in harmony.
Another destination is the first Episcopal see in Iceland. A cathedral is located in the middle of a huge plateau - the church itself is very simple inside but has beautiful stained glass windows AND underfloor heating - Iceland has plenty of geothermal energy 😀
The old small school building - a small wooden house built into the hill - is used as a church school. It reminds us of a Hobbit house - but it is still used as a church school.
It starts to rain and it draws us back. Lorenz stayed in the house to study math and is surely as hungry as we are.
Arriving at the cottage, we take out everything from the fridge that is left and cook ourselves a delicious birthday menu - a fish/vegetable and a beef fillet/vegetable pan. For dessert, we serve ourselves a fruity fresh yogurt with fruit salad.
The day should end in Fontana Laugarvatn - a thermal bath with several nice warm pools fed by the hot springs on site. The lake adjacent to the thermal bath offered the perfect cooling after 10 minutes in the 38-40 degree hot water or a sauna session, but s... so cold - brrrrrr.
Regards from Kneipp 😀
Unfortunately, our wish to see the Northern Lights from the warm pool did not come true 😳 8% probability is simply too low.
With this, still a beautiful experience in the thermal bath and a beer to end the day, the day came to an end.
Bye 🙋🏻
