Since yesterday, we've been alone here at our Workaway job. Our two hosts took the opportunity to travel around Portugal for a few days while we take care of everything here (mainly watering plants and taking care of the cat, dog, and fish on a daily basis). Other than that, we have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves here, with a few other tasks to do if we get bored. We've started making our own sourdough bread, which involves many steps and time, but it's so delicious and incomparable to the white, soft Portuguese bread from the supermarket. We're also busy carving clothes hooks, which we'll hang everywhere here and also try to sell on the road.
There's not much else happening here that is exciting :) We once drove to the nearest 'larger' town, Sao Teotonio, where there was a nice market. As long as we have enough food here, there's really no reason to leave. Being here alone gives us a sense of what it would be like to have our own piece of land in the middle of nowhere. It's wonderful to live carefree and to have something for ourselves from the 'work' we do, and to be able to use it freely. You do have to make some compromises, for example, if it's cloudy all day and the solar panel doesn't produce enough energy, we might not be able to use the oven or have a hot shower. But you can easily adapt to that, especially since we've only had sunny days again except for a few rainy days last week. Once more fruits and vegetables start growing here, we could be quite self-sufficient. So far, we've already tasted very delicious freshly picked tomatoes, zucchini, and watermelon.
The two of them are coming back on Friday, and on Saturday we'll leave this paradise. We want to explore a bit more of Southern Portugal and Andalusia before our next Workaway job on November 22nd.
