West End Carpark, Kaikoura

Another animal on our list are the dolphins that we really want to see here in Kaikoura. The place Kaikoura is known for the diversity of marine animals, as they have the opportunity to come very close to the coast due to the extremely deep water. So here you can encounter not only dolphins but also various species of whales. For today, we have booked a boat tour to see the Dusky Dolphins in the wild. After a half-hour boat ride, we arrive at the dolphin group and admire the 200-300 animals. There are a total of about 10,000 Dusky Dolphins in New Zealand, of which about 2,000 alone live off the coast of Kaikoura. The Dusky Dolphin - in German: Schwarzdelfin - only occurs in the southern hemisphere, is one of the smaller dolphins, and is considered a very sociable and playful species. We get to see what this species promises with our own eyes because no matter which direction you look, you always see dolphins jumping happily out of the water and demonstrating their acrobatic skills. And all this, although these animals are not trained or fed. The level of seasickness is predicted to be moderate for today. Therefore, unfortunately, many other people on the boat have to worry about getting sick, but the boat tour did not leave our stomach unaffected. After the dolphin tour, hunger overcomes us, which is why we prepare Asian instant noodles that we received as a gift from other campers a few days ago. We spend the rest of the day at another campsite in Kaikoura with a beautiful view of the special coastline.
