Day 30. Amethyst

પ્રકાશિત: 29.06.2017

Hello everyone,

Today we are leaving Rovaniemi heading north. After crossing the Arctic Circle, our sense of adventure is so strong that we have decided not to set any daily goals. We will set up our camp wherever fate takes us. 😂🤣

On our way north, we will pass Luosto, where, as true adventurers, we want to visit the local Amethyst Mine. When we arrive at the parking lot, we have to walk uphill for 3 km. Calling it a path is quite an exaggeration.

In any case, our stroller will be pushed to its limits. We have attached Nala in front of the stroller so that we have four-legged support in transporting Constantin... and what support it is!!! When we reach the top, there is a coffee ☕️ where we have a warm drink. Now let's quickly get the tickets. We decide that Tascha will stay with Consti and Nala while I go to the mine with Lotte. We spend 28€ on 2 tickets. Now we just have to wait for the next full hour and then we can climb up the mountain where our adventure can begin. Now let's talk about the course and the result. After climbing almost 200 steps, without any safety precautions, we were greeted by a rather grumpy and unmotivated Lapp. We are taken to a cabin, where we are given a monotonously recited text about the formation of amethysts. Afterwards, we go down to a field of rubble where each of us is given a hammer to dig in the ground. After about 15 minutes, a whistle is blown, and then our findings are washed. Only now do we learn that each person can only take one stone 💎. Luckily, Lotte and I had only found 2 stones anyway. After that, we are rushed through a shop where you can buy all sorts of trinkets. All in all, a completely loveless tourist trap. Well, at least Lotte had fun and the view from the top of the mountain was really great.

At least it was a nice hike.
We continue on the train and then we see our first free-ranging moose and shortly afterwards our first reindeer.

We continue to Sodankylä, where the next highlight awaits us.

And no, this is not just any Lidl! THIS, yes, exactly, is the northernmost Lidl in the world 🌎. After buying a few things, we continue and shortly after Tankavaara, we find a parking lot, as true adventurers do, in the middle of the wilderness. Normal parking spaces are for Black Forest campers 🌴, but not for people who have crossed the Arctic Circle 😂.

Until then,

see you tomorrow.........

Und noch mal "Wow" wollt ihr überhaupt noch mal in unsere spiessige Gesellschaft zurück? Ich glaube, mir würde es schwer fallen. Liebe Grüße zu euch in den hohen Norden.
