May 23rd was not only the day before the trip to the USA, but also my 30th birthday. Madness. A good friend once told me that 30 is the new 20. Well, let's see what happens.
On May 23rd, in the late afternoon, we were driven by my parents to the Leonardo Airport Hotel in Düsseldorf. We had planned to start our vacation a bit more relaxed.
However, we didn't want to go to bed too early, so we went to the old town of Düsseldorf to celebrate my birthday a little. We decided to use public transportation - even as people from Cologne, we have to admit that they were punctual and very well coordinated. The ticket price of 5.90 EUR per trip and per person was a bit much, though. But hey, we're on vacation after all.
We ended up at the Kasematten, where I ordered a wonderful wheat beer to celebrate the day. Sabrina opted for a rather sweet iced tea. We also had some garlic bread and a fried fish with a bun - just to satisfy our small hunger, since we already had lunch with my parents at the brewery earlier.
Naturally, we couldn't resist having a small ice cream afterward :D
Upon arriving at the hotel, I suddenly had the desire that when we arrive in New York, instead of taking the train from the airport to the city as originally planned, we should be driven to the hotel in style with an SUV. I quickly found a provider and could book a transfer for a whopping $85. Sabrina thought it was quite expensive, but she would also get to experience the benefits of such transportation - at least, I was sure of that.
