Hello to everyone who is still keeping track of what I'm doing these days!
I have to admit that I took my time writing about my time in Cozumel, but since I was around for 3 weeks on this island, I did not feel like writing every week and boring you with casual routine stories. But what I can say right away... Cozumel welcomed me warmly and I feel blessed that I got to meet some amazing people.
In my first days on the island, I walked around a lot and as I was out on one of my first evenings, I passed an old skate park. As I got closer, I saw kids playing on the half pipes and I don't know why, but this memory is stuck in my head. Probably because the thought of 3-7-year-olds crawling over a 1-meter-high ramp didn't sit well with me. To clarify, Mexican parents were responsible and they were right next to their kids. I am just sad that they had no other option because there was no nearby playground to go to. To get straight to the point... I am very grateful that I grew up in Europe for these kind of little but big things, but there are always two sides to everything, so I don't want to judge.
...I also visited a Zumba class that was right on the street where I lived. And here's a tip for every tourist... Just don't do it on an island where the humidity is 100% high. It was nice in the end, but I have to admit that I may have underestimated it a bit. Especially when they said 'Hasta manana' and I just thought... I doubt it.
So now let's talk about what Cozumel is famous for. Diving and snorkeling... the beautiful reefs of Cozumel attract millions of tourists every year. But here comes my confession: No, I didn't dive at all, and yes I know, shame on me. But now I have a pretty good reason to go back there. I still have a year ahead of me and I didn't want to spend my money right away - my friends are probably shaking their heads about me right now because this is so typical for me - and if I do it, I want to do it right, which means doing a dive master internship. A perfect transition to what I'll probably remember most about Cozumel... the people I met there.
A shout out to all the amazing pals who did their divemaster internship in Cozumel and let me spend time with them... seriously, I cannot put into words how wonderful it is to meet people who are open-minded and share the same passion as yourself. When you travel, it doesn't matter where you're from or how old you are... people just accept you for who you are, so I feel blessed every day.
So today I arrived in Mexico City, which means my next post will be about my experience with my sweet host family.
Best wishes xx
