After we couldn't see any penguins in Ushuaia, we were recommended to fly to Trelew. So we adjusted our plans and arrived in Trelew early in the morning after a short overnight stay in Buenos Aires. Of course, completely without a plan. 🙈
Since no car rental spontaneously gave us a car, we were just about to leave for the city by taxi when we luckily had the chance to rent a car with a 'pssst, want to rent a car?' (or something similar in Spanish) and then drive directly to Punta Tombo to see the penguins 🐧 in a Chevrolet family car!
My illusion of penguins floating by on ice floes ❄️ and occasionally dipping into the icy water was painfully destroyed there when we left the air-conditioned car at 30 degrees Celsius ☀️ and almost knocked over a penguin with the car door. They had dug themselves into every bush and happily posed for photos. On a path through the nature reserve, we could see countless animals up close. 🤗
And because the smell still didn't leave our noses, we had delicious fish for dinner - in one of the best restaurants so far!
The next day, we checked out of our hotel and visited the dinosaur 🦕 🦖 museum across the street! In the vicinity, the bones of the world's largest dinosaur 🦕 were found in 2013, as we were explained in a well-made video in a private screening. You can't see the giant yet, the huge bones are still being examined and the museum will necessarily be expanded in the next 3 years.
