There were two missions for Thessaloniki: Firstly, our refrigerator had to be repaired. Secondly, it was Vito's desire to stay in a hotel for once.
So we first went to WomoService Zampetas, which is the specialist for camping vehicles in all of Greece. We presented our problem and they said that the cooling unit was most likely broken. It would take one to two weeks to order a new one. But in order to properly identify the damage, we should let the refrigerator run on electricity for several hours. However, we had already decided against such a major repair. Nevertheless, we turned on our refrigerator, packed our things, and took the bus into the city.
There we found a cool hotel in the harbor and entertainment district Ladadika and enjoyed the evening in the city with very delicious food. The next day we did a proper city tour and walked about 10km (Bravo guys!). Thessaloniki is a lively student city with many cool restaurants and bars. The sights are rather small, some Roman excavations and Byzantine buildings that appear in the middle of newer houses. We feel sorry for the children in Thessaloniki, because playgrounds are rare, fenced in, and totally unimaginative (but this is also a general observation for Greece).
Just before the thunderstorm, we arrived back at the motorhome the next day. Zeus is still partying, but somehow the gods are merciful to us and we are always under a roof when it starts.
We had a surprise here, which had already become apparent the day before: Our refrigerator was buzzing diligently and cooling as it should! It is a so-called absorption refrigerator, which apparently is not that uncommon. Our refrigerator is therefore rather delicate and needs a lot of attention. We decided not to do anything, except to get a few extra cooling packs and give it another chance. If it doesn't work, we will use it as a food cabinet and install a small household refrigerator.
The Thessaloniki mission was therefore quite successful and a good change from beach life.
