Last night we had the opportunity to see one of the typical parades for July 4th in the town of Williams, then we visited the Grand Canyon Brewery for a brewery and distillery tour... it was a very fun evening.
This morning, we set off on the next stage, from Williams to Gallup, following Route 66. Although today we encountered parts of it as an interstate, there were also sections of the historic Route 66. Passing by various trading posts like Twin Arrows or Jack Rabbit. In between, we made a lunch stop in Winslow. Does that sound familiar? Listen to the Eagles' song 'Take it easy'. Apparently, the town lives off the fame of being mentioned in this song... i'm standing on a corner, in Winslow, Arizona...
Continuing on to Holbrook (where Tom Cruise picked up his brother Dustin Hoffman in the movie 'Rain Man') to 1st National Park, the Petrified Forest.
This national park showcases extraordinary petrified trees that still look like wood but are actually stone. The moon-like and crater-like landscape is also fascinating there.
The final stretch on Interstate 40 to Gallup and our destination for the day was reached. Today we covered 400 kilometers, some of which were driven quickly. By the way, we are now in New Mexico and have also moved an hour ahead in time.
Summary of the day: I now know where the Americans filmed the moon landing back then.... :-)
