Riva di Ugento 27.09-30.09.2024
Our next destination was a camping site we were familiar with, located at the bottom of the heel of the boot. We had also been to Riva di Ugento two years ago. Beautiful pitches, great washhouses, an eternally long and wide beach - we wanted to relax here for a few days.
On the first morning, we rode the scooter to the market, which was very disappointing, and returned to the campsite quite early. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a huge and incredibly dangerous grass snake right under our camping table!
For Lea, who is afraid even of slow worms, this was an absolute nightmare. After a quick internet search, we discovered that this lovely snake is also extremely aggressive.
We would have preferred to leave immediately, but we had already paid for 3 nights. Well, let's make the best of it. After reading more about this snake, we learned that it is very shy and only attacks when truly threatened.
With a Sarti Sprizz and some sparkling wine, we managed to make the best of the situation and began our day of day drinking. We ended this day with a meal at the campsite restaurant, where we shredded the tablecloth into pieces.
Day 2 at the campsite was supposed to be a relaxed standard day. We packed our things and wanted to set up the large sunshade again and lay underneath it all day. However, at the beach, the sand hit us straight in the face. So, plan change: a quick dip in the water and back to the campsite. We turned this into a game day and cooked spaghetti aglio e olio in the evening.
Despite our fear of the grass snake, we managed to live in harmony with the snake at the same location for two days.
