The 9th day began for us in the middle of the night, as our bus to Colca Canyon left at 3 o'clock. On this day and the next, the Colca Canyon Trek was on the agenda. The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon!
After a journey of about 3 hours, we arrived in Chivay at an altitude of 3600 meters, where we had breakfast first. Breakfast consisted once again of freshly squeezed fruit juice, coffee, and rolls with jam. After breakfast, we continued to a Condor Viewing Point at an altitude of 3700 meters. Unfortunately, we only saw 2 condors from a distance. Anyway, we continued to the starting point of the trek at an altitude of 3400 meters. We started at 9:38 and arrived in the valley at an altitude of 2400 meters after 1 hour and 51 minutes. After that, we hiked further to have our lunch, where we strengthened ourselves with the help of baby alpaca meat. Tastes pretty good, just a bit chewy. Afterwards, we hiked for another 3/4 hours to our night accommodation in the valley.
Once we arrived, we jumped into the pool to recover from the exertions. After dinner and a beer, we went to our sparse wooden shack to sleep around 9 PM. Of course, there was no electricity in our 'hut'.
End of day 9.
