June 3rd/65th day: Conques - Raynal

The 9th day on the Via Podiensis takes us away again, it was such a beautiful Sunday in Conques.

I spoke with Freek, a Dutch volunteer, yesterday who goes to Conques for 14 days every year to assist pilgrims. I told him about Henny and Cor: he has Henny's book about his pilgrimage in 1993 at home!

We are prepared for a hot day, but it will be ideal walking weather. But walking 900m uphill and 890m downhill in one day for 33km is quite a challenge. And my backpack is still heavy!
We leave Conques via the old pilgrims' bridge Pont des Roumieux, which was built in 1410.

The steep ascent cannot be captured in the picture:

At the top, we are rewarded with a magnificent view.

The trail is long, without the highlights of the past days. It's okay to relax.

Arriving again in the valley of the Lot

Our accommodation is much more pleasant than that:

We have a relaxed sunny evening that finally offers time for the blog and good internet connection.
And we also receive birthday greetings from the Bachchor back home, that's a success.
We enjoy it with a bottle of local red wine.

I'm now under 1300 km to the destination, fantastic!
