From Hamilton, I first drive towards Raglan to the Bridal Veil Falls, which plunge 55m there.
Then it goes on to Raglan, where I watch the surfers on the beach. The waves today are about 1.5m high and are causing difficulties for some of the surfers.
Then it goes on to Matamata. Here is the Hobbiton Movie Set, where the shots for Hobbiton were filmed for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit.
I have booked the Evening Banquet Tour.
I am taking the shuttle bus from the i-Site, which is designed like a Hobbit hole, to Shires Rest at 5 p.m., where the tour starts at 6:15 p.m. Unfortunately, the sky opens as soon as the tour begins and there is torrential rain, which continues throughout the entire tour of the grounds.
It is difficult to balance with an umbrella and camera and to keep the equipment dry in between. Some participants are not properly prepared for this weather in terms of clothing and are already wet after a short time.
Shortly before arriving at the Green Dragon, the rain finally stops. Here we will eat and drink in the style of the Hobbits. There are delicious food and drinks and for dessert, the cherry crumble is especially delicious :-D
Then, equipped with lanterns, we return through the now illuminated grounds in the dark.
I will be taken back to my accommodation by shuttle bus. Despite the initially miserable weather, a tour that was totally worth it and that I can only recommend.
