Farmwork in 9th and 10th week

Next Wednesday (26.08.) will be our last working day! We would be even happier if it would finally stop raining continuously, as we already are :-D. At least we had two sunny days last week and it really felt like 30 degrees on those days.

Although we don't regret working on the farm, our motivation is gradually decreasing when we think about continuing to travel. Since the Calving Season started last week, we now have to check the pregnant cows before and after milking to see if there might be a little baby calf next to them. The boss said it's unlikely that we will see a calf as long as we're still here. Well, on 21st August (Friday) we discovered two calves at once and helped a cow give birth. The deputy boss pulled a kind of rope around the calf's legs and then pulled it out with the rope and his hands - absolutely insane. Who would have thought we would experience something like this here.

The calves are really cute but also very wet, and the mommy really protects her little one! When we discover a calf, we have to tag it. That means it gets a chip with a number on its ear, and if you're not careful here, the mommy tries to run you over to protect her baby. Oh well, we think that even though we just want to continue traveling right now to finally see more and enjoy better weather, we will miss the farm and the work. In the past weeks, we have spruced up our little house here a bit to get our deposit back. (Mowing the lawn, weeding, general tidying up) Our car is also almost ready to go.

We solved the problem with the windows and got reflective sunshades, cut them to size, and attached them to the windows with Velcro. It may sound strange, but it has worked perfectly so far. In order to be able to open the window for air at night on one side, we have attached curtains instead of such a mat. We also bought a roof rack, checked the tires and fluids of the car, and got a tarpaulin for the car, which we can use in rain or sun with metal poles as a kind of awning.

You will definitely see pictures of it on our journey.Otherwise, we just have to get a few things like gasoline canisters, water canisters, and of course groceries for the start here. On 27th August, we will take Perth as our destination again, as we want to visit Wave Rock and Rottnest Island with its famous quokkas on the way there (We really hope that especially on these days it won't rain!!!).

Presumably, between 1st September and 3rd September, we will finally continue northward (Darwin) and then over to Sydney. We want to arrive in Sydney at the beginning of November because a friend from Germany will visit us there for two weeks. Of course, we hope that we can keep you updated and apologize in advance if the lack of internet connection gets in the way. So don't worry if you don't hear from us for a while. The excitement is rising!!!!!!!
