Welcome to France

પ્રકાશિત: 10.08.2020

The night was more or less okay for all of us. The heat was bearable because we had opened all the skylights to let in some fresh air, but of course whenever someone turns... you know how it is. Nevertheless, we didn't mind the alarm clock ringing early in the morning on the second day of our journey, because we had big plans again. Besides, the bread delivery van was scheduled from 8:15 am to 8:45 am. Naturally, we were among the first ones there, before everything was sold out... A hearty breakfast before we packed everything up properly, a final check to make sure everything was locked and secured... and so we could leave the campsite at 10 am on schedule.

It only took Herbert a measly 10 minutes to drive us to Belgium. It was striking that the motorway in Belgium was straight as an arrow for long stretches. Driving at a leisurely 100 km/h, it took us only about 2 hours and boom, we were in French territory.

For a while, we were concerned that Herbert wasn't feeling well, because the Belgian and French drivers seemed to be giving us signals with their prolonged right-turn signals. Once, we even stopped to check him from top to bottom, but couldn't find anything. After a while, however, we were sure that the others were simply too stupid to turn off their blinkers. In any case, they drive like crazy! Well, all good, different countries - different driving habits (or quirks).

The entire route to the destination Le Tréport - a port town on the English Channel - today was 417 km. We found a good pitch very close to the city and immediately booked it for 2 nights. After driving over 1000 km in the past two days, we want to do some sightseeing tomorrow.

So, after setting up our quarters, we decided to take a short walk, passing by some bars, shops, and many French tourists. Social distancing is completely ignored here, you could think that everything is normal and that Corona is far away. There are still a few people wearing masks.

So, I captured a few nice highlights with my mobile phone (lighthouse, elevator in the cliff connecting the upper town with the lower town, a large church on the cliffs, an impressive fish market, etc.) But taking a closer look at all of this is our plan for tomorrow, when we'll bring our camera along and take some proper pictures 😉

As a conclusion to the day, we had some delicious food from the grill from Hohndorf. Now we're sitting here, enjoying the candlelight and mosquitoes, struggling with the technology (I had to rewrite the blog a second time because suddenly everything was gone *boohoohoo*) and looking forward to tomorrow - without an alarm clock!

Best regards

Das klingt ja nach einem guten Start.
