On the 24th, we walked along the Huka Falls Walkway to the Huka Falls, the source of the Waikato River here in New Zealand. The sight of the powerful currents and, especially, the bright blue color of the water was breathtaking. In the evening, we went out to an Indian restaurant, which turned out to be a great decision as it was very nice and gave us a bit of a festive feeling. Even though it felt more like the beginning of summer vacation rather than Christmas.
Yesterday was actually Christmas for the Kiwis. In the afternoon, there was a barbecue buffet at the hostel where we enjoyed delicious food and met many new people in the hot afternoon sun. Around 5:30 pm, we went back to Lake Taupo, fully stuffed, and soaked up some sun, which was, of course, a stark contrast to Christmas in Germany. In the evening, everyone from the hostel gathered for an hour and we finished the remaining wine 🍸 It was a very fun evening and overall a beautiful Christmas!
