Day 18 | September 15, 2018 Eugene, OR - Eureka, CA

પ્રકાશિત: 17.09.2018

We have seen and experienced so much already. Today was supposed to be another highlight. We wanted to see the giants of this Earth. The mammoth trees in the Redwoods. These things can grow up to one hundred meters tall and biologists estimate their maximum age to be 2,500 years. It sounds so unreal that we just had to see it. Soon, we reached the Redwoods National and State Parks. We have seen a lot of forests during this vacation, but nothing like this.

The forest was very dense and suddenly huge trees towered on the right and left side of the road. Trees with trunks as if they were the legs of giants. Almost like a fairy tale forest. And don't think that it only happens in one spot.. These trees appear for miles and miles. There are also narrower ones that are probably a few hundred years younger. But they all have this unique characteristic. They stand straight towards the sky and seem untouchable. These trees have experienced so much already. Two and a half millennia of Earth's history. And they are still standing!!! Majestic, powerful. It is said that only 5% of the original population remains, but there must still be tens of thousands.

I don't think it's possible to capture what we saw in photos, but here are a few small impressions..

Later in Eureka, a small city back on the Pacific, we ended the day. The city had a small Victorian old town to offer and was more worth seeing than we expected. Tomorrow, there will be a second part about the Redwoods :-)
