- Day 5, from Broshkë to Elbasan
- Today, I set off at 6 am because the temperatures are still above 30 degrees during the day. To my surprise, it was mostly cloudy. The scenery today was not as varied. I walked along fields for a long time and through 3 small villages. The only real change was about halfway (today it was 20 km) an old water tower that was still in operation. I actually wanted to walk past it, but a man standing at the entrance of the water tower waved at me and signaled for me to come to him. I climbed the steps to the water tower, and he approached me with a friendly gesture and spoke to me. He explained to me that he is the mechanic for this water tower and has to monitor the 5 water pumps in the building for 4 hours every day. He took me inside the tower and showed me the 5 pumps. To me, it looked like I had looked into the belly of a long-sunken ship. He even spoke a few words of German. He explained to me that he was in Germany for 2 years until they deported him again. After refilling my water bottles there, I said goodbye and continued on my way. When I arrived in Elbasan, I went straight to my hotel, which I had booked the night before. A 'resort hotel', I was the only guest. Inside, everything was dark and abandoned, no one at the reception - 'Lost Place' I thought to myself. After a short time, a woman came from outside and asked what I wanted. She explained to me that she is the waitress at the restaurant, which is about 70 m away, and she can also give me the key to my room. When I arrived in the room, I was surprised - it was a really nice room and a clean modern bathroom. After resting and preparing for the next 2 days, I went to the old town of Elbasan. The old town is very beautiful, with many cafes. People are sitting everywhere in cafes, taverns, and in the park. There is a good atmosphere, the old men meet everywhere in the park to play chess, dominoes, or cards.
