Tour of Split

Next stop is Split. In the famous city on the Croatian Adriatic coast, we have booked a small apartment for 2 nights. When we arrive there and want to buy our food for the next few days at the supermarket, we realize that it is Sunday and the supermarket will close in 2 minutes. As so often, we have once again forgotten the day of the week. Fortunately, Tripadvisor recommends some alternatives for our dinner.

But before we have the "best pizza in town", we take a look at the old town of Split. The old town consists largely of the Diocletian's Palace, which served as the retirement residence of the Roman Emperor with the same name. Since the late 1970s, the city center has been a UNESCO World Heritage site and is truly impressive. We buy tickets for a guided tour (there are no free walking tours here).

Our guide Darko then leads us through the narrow streets of the old town for 75 minutes. The distinct Roman influence sets the city apart from the ones we have seen so far, such as Sibenik or Piran.

After the tour, we make our way to the restaurant. Luckily, we manage to get one of the few tables and enjoy the pizza. Very delicious.

After dinner, we take a walk home and along the way, we discover a supermarket that is open until 10 pm on Sundays. We quickly buy our breakfast for the next few days and fall tired and full into bed.
