Singapore

The onward journey from Melbourne to Singapore did not go as planned either, as the rescheduled flight was delayed again - by another day. We didn't want to sit around for another day doing nothing, especially since we had rushed to see Melbourne in the two planned days. And without a car, excursions to the surrounding area - where we had plenty of ideas - were impractical. So we booked a new flight with another airline, spent quite some time cancelling with the original airline, and will later have the joy of recovering the additional hotel costs in Melbourne...

But at least the replacement flight took us to Singapore without further delays or other obstacles. And it was the right decision to rebook, because according to Flightaware, the flight that was postponed again was also cancelled.

Finally, we arrived in Singapore. At the last minute, we got some travel guides, which give us a framework for visiting the city. In the 4 days we have left, we actually manage to walk through all the recommended areas fairly stress-free - although we don't (anymore) blindly follow every single number. We actually quite like the city - here too, there is a mix of (well, medium-) old and ultra modern. The green spaces are noticeably less than in Australia, and there are high-rise buildings not only for companies and hotels, but also for normal residential purposes. Again and again - and especially along the Singapore River - you can find cozy alleyways where you can hang out and enjoy a refreshing drink.

The climate is a major disadvantage of Singapore - especially the male part of our travel group did not cope well with it and was basically constantly soaked, which was largely due to the constant sweating. In individual cases, the result 'soaked' was also achieved by one or the other (heavy) rain shower, as it is currently rainy season. Nevertheless, Singapore was definitely worth a visit.
