After my breakup with Bhupinder, I joined a large travel group the next morning who were also traveling with the Straybus.
Our first stop was the coastal town of Kaikoura. There, we explored the coast on a walk and observed the sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks. Afterwards, we spent a cozy evening and enjoyed the hostel's facilities with a pool and sun deck. The next day started for me at 4:30 am, as I had signed up for dolphin watching. Still in the dark, we went to the center on the coast and were distributed to the boats.
We were lucky and saw about 200 dolphins jumping and performing tricks. Unfortunately, the sky was too cloudy to enjoy the sunrise.
After the 3-hour boat tour, we were picked up directly from the Dolphin Center and spent the rest of the day traveling to Wellington. The ferry crossing was the highlight as we could enjoy the view of the 'fjord'.
In Wellington and Auckland, I didn't see much myself. We arrived late and had to leave early. But since I will stop in these two places again, it wasn't a big problem for me.
The next longer stop was in Hahei, a coastal village on the Coromandel Peninsula. During our 2 days there, we had the opportunity to enjoy Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove, and the Main Beach. I am constantly amazed by the fantastic natural phenomena here. New Zealand is truly impressive.
