From Los Angeles to San Diego, we let ourselves be carried along the coast and visit the most beautiful beaches.

Belmont Beach

In Long Beach, kilometers of sandy beaches are directly connected to the port. Belmont Beach offers black sand and hardly any waves.

Huntington Beach

On Sunday, we want to spend the whole day at Huntington Beach. We are not the only ones there, because the cars and crowds of people are piling up on the kilometers-long beach. We are still wondering why there are so many sports cars on the road, until we realize that we are in the middle of a car show. There is so much hustle and bustle that only half of the parking fees are charged at the entrance to the parking lot. So we can save 15 dollars.
The beach is very cool. On the one hand, it is mega wide and the beach simply drops off just before the water. On the other hand, there is a small waterway in front of the sea that has created some pools. The perfect pools for all children.

And then there is a raging river that flows into the sea, where you can float along.

We collect lots of seashells and decorate our sandcastle with them.
We had a really great day here!

Newport Beach

This beach is located on a small peninsula. First, we have breakfast at the harbor on one side and then we just have to cross the street to reach the open sea.

There's not much going on here, just a tractor driving around and sifting the sand.

We build a huge sandcastle and Benedikt buries us in the sand.

In the afternoon, we go to the nearby pier and join the anglers. One after the other shouts loudly and we immediately look to see what they are pulling out of the sea. It turns out to be a baby tiger shark hooked on the line. It was then released back into the water. Until now, we weren't really aware that there are sharks here. Especially since there are soooo many surfers here. When we look at the waves, we already discover the next animal, a large stingray. Okay, now it's a bit scary when we think that we were still swimming here in the water in the morning. And then the next people shout that dolphins have been spotted. Within 5 minutes, we were overwhelmed with sightings of animals. When calm returns, we also cast our fishing line into the water. There are a few fish nibbling at the bait, but we didn't catch anything today.

Tamarack Surf Beach

In Carlsbad, we take a short beach break in the morning and go to a dinosaur explorer playground instead.

Two toy diggers in the sandbox are the highlight. They are played with until it's time for a picnic in the park.

It's so hot that nap time is held outside under a tree.

To cool off from the heat, we go back to the sea. This time, there is a narrow sloping beach with black sand. While walking, we find many big and small lobster tails.

Ponto State Beach Jetty

The southernmost beach in Carlsbad consists of fine yellow and black sand with large pebbles. The waves are fantastic and come in sets of 5, great for running into and jumping over. Jens and I have discovered frisbee today, while the children dig sand holes.

Next, we will go to San Diego, which will be our final destination in North America.
