Yesterday we set off from Fontvieille to Collioure. Collioure is an old fishing village located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. The village was recommended to us and what can I say, it was worth the trip. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful village with the most colorful streets. Every street we walked through was full of surprises and delights. Everything was colorful and filled with flowers, wonderful flower pots, and wall paintings. Everything was so harmonious and had a special atmosphere. Even the fruit shop looked adorable and I had to stock up on peaches and figs there. I was very impressed. At the harbor, we enjoyed the view of the sea and had a delicious lunch. We first noticed the many tour groups over 80 years old. Lots of people were following their respective tour guides. We thought Collioure was a hidden gem. We felt like we walked through every street and took lots of photos. Littlefoot was also petted countless times, oh, the little one enjoys it, but only as long as she is on our arm :-)! It was hard for us to leave Collioure, but our accommodation was in the neighboring village of Port Vendres. We checked into our room in the evening and took a walk along the harbor. We had some crepes with Nutella and then went to bed. We wanted to go to bed early so that we could start refreshed to Saragossa. The alarm clock was set for 7:00 a.m. But we didn't need it. It was such a terrible night. This time Daniela heard some noises and woke me up from my deep sleep. She asked me 'do you hear THAT what is THAT?' It was so bad, I didn't even know where I was at first, and then I heard that noise too. But honestly, I didn't care... no idea what it was, whether it was an animal or raindrops... dreadful. I couldn't fall asleep anymore, every sound was MINE - annoying -!!!!!
Hmmm, the morning was a nightmare for both of us. We both had headaches and puffy eyes. When checking out, Daniela reported on our night when asked 'how was our room'. The guy was so uncomfortable about it. He didn't charge us for Littlefoot and gave us a 10% discount. Well, I would have preferred to have slept through the night!!!
We had just left the hotel and were driving on a country road, just before a tunnel with the car. Then we saw the cars from oncoming traffic driving very slowly with hazard lights on. We saw him at the same time: a large black and white dog running in the middle of the road. It was so terrible. We immediately stopped and turned on the hazard lights. The couple next to us got out and wanted to lure the dog, but he ran back into the tunnel. Dreadful, I had gotten some treats for Littlefoot and already had the leash in my hand, but the dog was so panicked. His tongue was completely hanging out of his mouth and he kept turning anxiously in all directions. We then followed him very slowly and signaled the oncoming traffic with high beams to drive slowly. That worked too. Daniela then drove to the right to call the police behind the tunnel, but they had already passed us. No idea if they caught the dog. Hopefully, everything turned out okay. You can really do without such experiences. The situation stayed with us for a while.
Since the Pyrenees will be covered by rain for the next few days, we had to adjust our planned tour and drove to Saragossa today. We will stay here for the next three days. Actually, we are a bit outside of Saragossa, as we both didn't feel like staying in a city hotel. We rented another private accommodation. A complete old house with a pool and everything else you might need (e.g. 4 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, whirlpool, etc.). When we got off the highway and the navigation system showed only 1.3 km left, Daniela said to me 'I feel like I'm in a western movie, just barren landscapes as far as the eye can see and a dead bush is being blown across the road...'! Hmmm, I replied 'I feel like I'm in a horror movie, two women alone in a huge isolated house and the owner is a psychopath who cuts up and freezes women'! Daniela didn't find it funny at all, well, neither did I :-)! Well, we still had to drive through a small village and then the sign with our accommodation was already there. The owner came towards us and he is super nice :-)! He greeted us with a basket of fresh figs, grapes, and tomatoes from the garden. Of course, we are allowed to help ourselves once we have eaten that. He shouldn't have said that, I will pick all the figs from the tree... smile. Mega delicious fresh figs, a dream. Now quickly to the accommodation, it's insanely huge for the two of us - ups three :-).
So now we are totally exhausted and will hop into bed and hopefully sleep well.
