The salt is everywhere

Today we were supposed to go sailing - sailing on the Great Barrier Reef. I was really looking forward to it. The destination should be Whitehaven Beach with a snorkeling stop along the way.

Before boarding, everyone should take off their shoes. I didn't understand the meaning behind it at first, but then I quickly understood it!

The crew said right at the beginning, put on rain jackets, today it's going to be rough with pretty strong winds. The ship's railing wasn't high and I was actually soaking wet within 2 minutes. Luckily I had taken off my shoes and socks and put on my rain jacket. But everything was wet. the pants, the jacket, the hair (despite the hood) and at some point the water ran into the collar of the jacket, so the T-shirt was wet too. Luckily it was pleasantly warm!

The Pacific was actually very rough! Taking pictures was out of the question - capturing them was the order of the day. The crew then explained to us that we would still be on the wind-sheltered side when we go to Whitehaven Beach and around the Whitsundays Islands, then it will be even tougher. As a result, the majority of guests didn't want to go there anymore 😬

So we looked for a sheltered bay and went into the water to snorkel. I had already written about swimming and said that I wouldn't go into the sea here. But I had to make an exception to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef... So I got into the water with a pool noodle and my snorkel gear on my face. I have never done this before and can now say that snorkeling will not be my favorite sport! I just couldn't breathe underwater and when I did I always opened my mouth 🤪

I was really looking forward to seeing the famous reef. In my imagination it was colorful - unfortunately in reality there was no color to be seen. Everything was gray and the 2 fish that were there had black and white stripes. No colors, desolate and that should be the famous Great Barrier Reef??? Does it look like this everywhere? I guess I won't find out...

The equally famous Whitehaven Beach was now canceled, so we went to a small island with a sandbank through the low tide. The beach looked great and the blue of the water was impressive, but that couldn't really distract me from the gray underwater...

At least it got wet again back to the harbor. The salt was everywhere now - but that's supposed to be healthy 😄
