City Days in Kuala Lumpur

After the exciting start in Sri Lanka, we spent a few days enjoying city life in Kuala Lumpur. We visited Daniel Holliger - a childhood friend of Mathias who has been living here for 4 years. Free accommodation, and to top it off, in a complex with a squash court and a sky infinity pool.

Due to the end of Ramadan, there were public holidays and a lot going on here. Furthermore, the FIFA World Cup started, which excited people here despite the time difference.

After a day of lounging, doing laundry, and excessive use of the Wi-Fi, on the second day we explored the city center. From Chinatown - where we accidentally discovered the cool Malaysia Culture Gallery with interesting exhibitions, to Merdeka Square with its old colonial buildings and one of the tallest flagpoles in the world, to the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers, we checked off the sights. Of course, we also visited Suria KLCC, one of the huge shopping malls. Dinner was in the neighboring Sri Hartamas district - a kind of Japanese tapas - and then, of course, the opening match of the World Cup. For Mathias, this was nothing new, as he had been here twice before. But it's still interesting to see how much a city like this can change in 3-4 years.

Another day of laziness and planning later, we showed Seraina the starting neighborhood of Changkat Bukit Bintang with Jalan Alor, and we convinced her of the Spanish tapas restaurant Pinchos. We also visited the Helipad Bar - just a cool spot for a nightcap.

Next, we visited the Batu Caves on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Impressive caves and temples, most of which were covered due to restoration work. In addition to the caves, we visited the green part of Kuala Lumpur, the Botanical Gardens with the lake and the Butterfly Park, to find some relaxation in the greenery.

And tomorrow? Tomorrow we fly to Luang Prabang in Laos - KL, we'll be back - soon.
