As usual, today started with feeding the calves, having breakfast, and cleaning the huts. Since all the huts had to be done, I was busy until half past one.
Then Inveldur came to me and said that they wanted to go to the town and get wood, and asked if I wanted to come along. I said yes, and I could have sworn that as we were leaving, she mentioned that I could finish the last hut that I hadn't quite completed later. A few minutes later, when she realized that the cleaning kit was missing from one of the huts, she said that we would be out longer. Somehow, we must have misunderstood each other. We quickly finished the one hut together and then set off.
After an hour's drive, we arrived in Selfoss. Stani wanted to buy new pants, but the store was closed for summer vacation, so we went to eat first in a relatively large building (a kind of warehouse), where there were several food stalls/restaurants next to each other and shared the tables and seating areas (The Old Dairy Food Hall - Mjólkurbúið Mathöll). I had pizza (the best pizza I've had in Iceland so far) and Stani and Inveldur had something Chinese. Then we went grocery shopping and then to the hardware store to buy wood.
After an hour's drive back, we arrived back home at half past six. For dinner, we had hotdogs, once again.
Afterwards, the calves had to be fed and the horses had to be returned to their paddock. Then I tried a new kind of tea and wrote.
In the meantime, I have tried some Icelandic specialties: Dried fish, they gave it to me right at the beginning. Since I don't generally like fish, it wasn't really for me. It was just like a hard chewing gum with a fish flavor. I tried shark after about a week. It tastes absolutely disgusting. The taste kind of resembles fish, but somehow shark tastes spicy without actually being spicy and stinks like crazy. You really have to brush your teeth afterwards. Yesterday for dinner, we had smoked lamb. The farmers used to eat that a lot in winter because it lasts a long time. It actually tastes really good. It tastes like lamb with a smoky flavor and you have to chew a bit longer. It was served with a sauce made from milk, butter, a little sugar, and I think it was cheese. Absolutely delicious.
Until then
