7th day - One week here

Oñemoherakuãva: 16.02.2018

Today marks exactly one week since I arrived in Floripa. And it took just as long for me to finally find a host family. But before heading to my new place, after a painful night (thanks to the sunburn of my life!), Henara and I went to the city to meet Maike and get Brazilian SIM cards. Mobile internet is essential here, as there are no schedules and the whole system is very confusing, especially if you don't understand much Portuguese. Of course, because I'm generally followed by bad luck, mobile internet didn't work for me because my phone is a drama queen and ignored the Brazilian network. Everything worked smoothly for Maike (by the way, she has the exact same phone as me!). Now I have to somehow sell my SIM card because I can't return it. I'll just try my luck with the newcomers. After that, we went to the Portuguese course where we met many other volunteers from different countries (Argentina, France, Italy, Colombia - and of course, 10,000 other Germans). We exchanged our experiences and tried to find solutions to the various problems in our home countries. It was really interesting to meet new people and hear their stories. Finally, we went to my new accommodation. The family consists of Mary, her parents, and their dog Mel, a schnauzer - and now also two Germans, Louisa and me. They live in a beautiful area, with a pool, rooftop terrace, and ocean view. I finally have my own room too. It's not big, but it has everything I need (bed, desk, wardrobe, and even air conditioning). The host mother also seems to be a good cook. For the move-in, we had sweet potato soup and even bread that is very close to German bread!!! So it couldn't be better :-)
Tomorrow we will visit our workplace for the first time before starting on Monday. I will keep you updated! Até logo meus amigos!
