7.7.2024 Toulon
I had planned today with Astrid and Craig. We met at the pier shortly before 9 a.m. and boarded the shuttle boat (for a fee), which took us past French warships, including an aircraft carrier, to the marina near the city.
Our next means of transport was already waiting there: the "Little Train". We took this on a city tour. We didn't find Toulon particularly impressive. After 45 minutes we were back at the marina.
Now the real fun began in Toulon, but initially with a scare: The "Sherlock Holmes Murder Mystery Game", which is played with the help of a smartphone, was supposed to start in front of a church in Nice, 150 km away. After my experience in Goa, I knew that sometimes the wrong meeting points are given. I looked for a church of the same name in Toulon and found one. That's where we went.
As soon as we got there, the game app came on: we were supposed to take a photo of the church. We were then introduced to the murder case: there were four suspects whose alibis and motives we were supposed to check. The places where we would find clues were marked on a city map. Our task was now to visit these places spread across the city center, solve more or less tricky brain teasers there and get the answer we needed.
After 2.5 hours we had walked all over the city, gathered all the clues and identified one of the four suspects as our murderer. Unfortunately we were wrong. We would have liked to have taken our time to find out where our thinking was wrong, but the app unfortunately didn't allow us to do that. It's a shame, but we still had fun.
Then we went back to our ship. After lunch I lay down for a bit - and didn't wake up again until just before 8 p.m. At least I was still in time for today's concert by the "Barricade Boys". The four Englishmen put on a good show.
Afterwards I met Craig for a beer to discuss plans for the next day.
