Ipoh, the city of caves

Hello everyone,

Slightly delayed, but here is our little contribution to the Malaysian city of Ipoh. Not yet fully developed by foreign tourists, Ipoh is a hidden gem "south" of Penang. Known for its amazing food (Chicken Rice, Ganja Rice, Ipoh white coffee, etc.) and its extraordinary caves, Ipoh attracts a lot of locals every weekend. We were able to experience the city during Deepavali - Little India was bustling with activity ;). During the week, Ipoh is very quiet... almost too quiet for the size of this city (fourth largest city in Malaysia???).

There is also plenty of street art here! You can feel that Ipoh is trying to become a little like Georgetown :-)! Nonetheless, we had fun and met nice people who run a reggae bar and hostel. Yes - here you can drink your beer, which you can get from the Chinese kiosk around the corner, in a coffee cup! Cheers :-) But beware of the royal fruit Durian... It doesn't taste good, smells like vomit, and is outrageously expensive (for the Chinese, however, the search for the best Durian is equivalent to the search for the highest enlightenment ;)) Cheers!
