On our last day before departure, we continued on to Schneverdingen and made a stop at Pietzmoor along the way.
A boardwalk leads through the largest contiguous moorland in the Lüneburg Heath.
Across the parking lot, there was the possibility of taking a carriage ride through the heath. Since this is so typical for a visit to the Lüneburg Heath, we decided to take a carriage ride after the hike through the moor.
Until 1994, this area was still a military training ground. The training operation was halted and the reclamation of the destroyed terrain began.
Today, there are many hiking trails and routes for carriages through the Osterheide.
Along the way, one of the horses took the opportunity for a snack when we passed a conveniently located tree or bush.
Afterwards, we continued on to Schneverdingen to visit the heath garden there.
Here, there are around 200 different varieties of heather, so you can always find one that is in bloom.
So we were able to see a few blooms here. Unfortunately, we were a few weeks too early for the heather bloom in the areas we visited.
After one last overnight stay in Schneverdingen, we headed home the next day and our short vacation came to an end.
